Years after leaving his small hometown behind, Joel returns to help his mother Monika, who now resides in a nursing home battling dementia. Shortly after her move, Monika’s health rapidly declines. She is haunted by frightening visions of her late husband—Joel’s abusive father—and begins to display sudden, violent outbursts. Joel starts to suspect that a sinister, supernatural force may be taking hold of his mother. However, given his own struggles with substance abuse and mental health issues, he questions whether his perceptions are reliable. As Monika’s memories continue to fade, Joel is forced to face the ghosts of his past, stirred up by his return to the place where his childhood memories reside.
