Spring of 1989, high in the Indian Himalayas—where even birds fly close to the ground to avoid losing their way in the dense clouds—Dev, a soft-spoken man, owns an expansive estate filled with multiple orchards. He resides in a colonial-style home alongside his family. Dev often spends his mornings crafting human-sized wings, which he dons to glide briefly over his property. One day, while strolling through his land, he discovers a solitary apple tree that has been burned. In the following days, more trees suffer the same fate. As Dev and his manager keep a close watch on the plantation workers, tensions begin to rise. Suspicion falls on a group of nomads, and a corrupt police officer becomes involved. Meanwhile, loyal staff camp overnight in the orchards to maintain vigilant surveillance. Despite these precautions, a massive blaze erupts a week later, consuming an entire mountainside of trees. In his desperate quest to find the arsonist, Dev turns to armed confrontation. The gradual destruction of the orchards compels him to confront hard truths about himself and his family.
